This film is a visual expression of the storytelling method behind Glo D Records.
Earlier generations of recording artists demonstrated that a record could hold more than entertainment. It could preserve observation, memory, humor, struggle, perspective and lived experience. Glo D Records draws from that tradition and carries its documentary spirit into original musical storytelling.
The music begins with a life that was actually lived.
In this film, one woman moves through receiving advice, making choices, beginning a life of her own, carrying responsibility, learning through experience and eventually returning with an understanding she did not have when she left.
The story moves through Winter Freshman, Spring Sophomore, Summer Junior and Fall Senior, not simply as ages, but as chapters through which lessons are received, tested by life, understood and ultimately carried forward.
What you are watching is also what you are hearing.
The soundtrack does not sit behind the story as decoration. The music is another narrator. Image, lyric, sound and lived experience work together to tell one continuous story.
That is the recording philosophy behind Class Is in Session™: Life Is the Curriculum.
We begin with lessons many of us have heard from parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, elders and people who lived before us. Some advice we followed. Some we ignored. And some we could not fully understand until life gave us an experience to attach to the words.
That is why the film ends at the table.
The student who once received the lesson has lived long enough to pull out a chair for someone coming behind her.
The student becomes the teacher.
THE GLO D RECORDS METHOD
We don't begin with words looking for a beat.We begin with a lived story looking for a way to be heard.
Through original music, visual storytelling and connected records, Glo D Records documents lived experiences and the lessons found inside them.
